Alexander Pushkin. Life and Creative Work. Literary Monographic Exhibition
In 1999, on the eve of Alexander Pushkin’s bicentenary birthday, the Literary Monographic Exhibition “Alexander Pushkin. Life and Creative Work” was opened on the second and the third floors of Volkonsky’s mansion at 12, Moika River where Pushkin’s Last Apartment is located.
The exhibition’s seventeen rooms present unique items of Pushkin’s epoch including the famous portrait of the poet by Vasily Tropinin (1827), his other life time portraits and that of his contemporaries, memorial objects such as Pushkin’s writing desk from the Boldino estate, Ivan Krylov’s favorite arm-chair, Mikhail Kutuzov’s camp stool, land patent letter from Empress Elizabeth to Pushkin’s great-grandfather Abram Petrovich Hannibal, and many others. One of the most amazing items of the exhibition is the Naschokin Doll House — a miniature replica of the house in Moscow which belonged to Pushkin’s friend Pavel Naschokin regarded as a monument of the noble society life of that period.
The exhibition also includes the first editions of Pushkin’s poem “Ruslan and Liudmila” and his novel “Eugene Onegin”. Pushkin’s manuscripts (copies on archival paper) enable visitors to comprehend the mystery of his creative process.
The exhibition is based on the authentic materials of the late eighteenth — early nineteenth centuries features the poet as the key figure of the “Golden Age” of Russian culture.
